We’re supporting Friends of Baker Arms

Jesus said, ‘I am the Good Shepherd… I know my sheep and my sheep know me.’ John 10.14

If you live in Bayford itself, you’ll know all about Friends of Baker Arms. For those who don’t, the Baker Arms is our local pub… or at least it was until it closed in June 2023. As a school we’ve always had a really good relationship with the pub: landlords used to let us use their carpark for parents dropping off children at school or picking up at the end of the school day. Staff and governors were also known, on occasion, to sample the food and drink!

Now the owner of the pub is open to selling it and there’s a very active local initiative hoping to secure the pub for the community. Around the country village communities have begun to resist the closure of important community facilities by acquiring them and running them as community owned businesses. Bayford hopes to join them.

As a school we fully support the Friends of Baker Arms (FOBA) and the bid to re-open the pub and develop it as a community hub. If you want to know more you can click on the button below to go the FOBA website. You can also take the FOBA survey and share your ideas about what the Baker Arms could become. Why not get involved? Your community needs you!

FOBA invites everyone to a Christmas Social Evening on Friday 15th December from 6:00 pm until late at Bayford Village Hall. Entry is free and there will be a cash bar, food, carols, a raffle and a quiz. Your’e welcome to pop in or stay for the whole event!
