Save the date: Wednesday 4th May, 5:30 to 7:30 pm
Reading is one of the most important things our children will ever learn to do: it helps them to discover the world, take a full part in adult life, develop their imagination, and increase their vocabulary. At Bayford, we believe that a child’s education is a team effort between the school and parents/carers, so we need your support to help bring on your child’s reading skills. However, we know how busy people’s lives are – many of us are parents ourselves – and know how tricky it can be to juggle work, family, and supporting our children with their learning.
When we speak to parents about reading with their children, we often hear either that they don’t know how best to support them, or they aren’t confident in doing so. Therefore, to help you, we’ve arranged for Michelle Nicholson, a Deputy Lead Adviser for Primary English from Herts for Learning to come to school to speak to parents about how they can support their children with reading at home. Michelle will be able to explain why reading is so important and give hints and tips on how you can engage better with your child’s reading.
Fun evening for the children too!
The reading event will take place on Wednesday 4th May from 5.30pm – 7.30pm. We would love it if as many parents/carers as possible would be able to join us at the event so, to help out, we will be putting on a fun evening for the children too. While you are listening to Michelle give you hints and tips to help improve your child’s reading, the children will be watching a film with a drink and snacks in a classroom with their school friends.
What to expect
The evening for parents will be split into a discussion with tips, hints, and book recommendations followed by a relaxed Q&A session where Michelle can answer your reading and book related questions. During this time, we will provide some drinks and nibbles for parents/carers to make it a more social gathering. It is also hoped that we can arrange for a local book shop to come along with some appropriate books for you to browse and purchase if you wish to do so. We’ll be asking for an entirely voluntary donation of £2 to cover the refreshements and costs of the event.
Let us know if you’re coming!
This will be a very informative and fun evening. Even if you already do a lot of reading with your child, you should still consider joining us as there will be something for everyone!
