H&WSSP Hockey Competition

This year we entered two teams into the hockey competition - held on a blustery spring afternoon on Simon Balle's astro-turf. Our B-Team won one of their games and lost the other two, while our A-Team drew their first game and won the next two. In the semi-final the A Team met Morgans. After taking an early two goal lead, Morgans managed to score a couple towards the end of the match to send it into extra-time. Unfortunately Morgans scored again in extra-time and therefore progressed to the final. In the third place play-off match we met Hertingfordbury, who we had drawn against in the first round. Once again the game ended in a draw so we needed extra-time again to separate the teams. After some fabulous play, from both sides, Bayford managed to score a great goal to win us the bronze medals. Well done to both teams - as usual, you did us proud!

H&WSSP Small/Rural Schools Football Competition

The school football team took part in the Herts and Ware School Sports Partnership football competition at Wodson Park on a lovely sunny March afternoon. Having had a reasonably good season of friendly matches, losing once in the cup match, and once early on in the season, the boys entered the competition full of confidence. Of the seven matches we played we drew one against Hunsdon, lost one to Thunderidge and won all the rest. This resulted in us finishing in second spot and going through to the semi-final stage, where we met Tewin Cowper. After a slow start we managed to beat them 2-0, moving us into the final.

Having been beaten by Thunderidge in the group stages by a couple of goals, we knew what we were up against when we met them in the final. Thunderidge took an early lead with a lovely goal, but after that our defence and keeper performed majestically, snuffing out their attacking play admirably. We dominated most of the match, but a fantastic pairing of two very tall lads in defence and goal for Thunderidge, was able to keep our midfield and attackers efforts at bay. Well done boys for finishing 2nd . You have your lovely silver medals to show off!

H&WSSP Small/Rural Schools Netball Competition

Our netball team took part in the small/rural schools competition recently. Playing against schools of a similar size to Bayford, the team managed to beat all teams they played against. This is particularly impressive seeing as we have only been able to play one competitive match this year due to some schools not fielding a team or bad weather causing the match to be postponed. Winning the small/rural schools competition meant we then had to play the winners of the medium schools. Unfortunately, we lost this game by a small margin. Well done girls - you have done us proud once more!

H&WSSP Dance Festival

In February children from Reception through to Year 6 took part in the H&WSSP dance festival at Hertford theatre. The children danced to a comilation of songs and thoroughly enjoyed the experience, under the spot lights at the theatre. Some of the children also took part in a music festival at the Gordon Craig Theatre in Stevenage, organised by our dance club instructor, Rebecca.

H&WSSP Sports Hall Athletics

Class 3 took part in the partnership sports hall athletics competition recently at Wodson Park. The children took part in a number of relay running races a well as field events such as speed bounce, chest push and vertical jump. In the weeks leading up to the competition we practised an number of the events in our PE lessons, including relay baton change overs. It just goes to show how practice can make perfect - all of our relay change overs were carried out perfectly, with no baton drops and both children moving forward during the change. As a results, both the girls and the boys won three of their five races and came second and third in the other two.

Once the results had been accumulated, Sandy from the partnership announced the results and the children gave a big cheer when the girls came third and the boys came first, winning bronze and gold medals respectively. Well done to all in Class 3 for flying the flag for Bayford PE.

H&WSSP Basketball

Our basketball team took part in the partnerhsip competition for small and rural schools on 2nd November at Sele secondary school. Arriving early, the team took the opportunity of an empty sports hall to warm up and get their eye in before the competition started. And what a warm it must have been. The team started well, winning their first game by 6 baskets to 2 and then went from there to win the rest of their eight games. By the end of the tournament, the team had played back to back matches with just three minutes break in between each, meaning that all eight players were needed to ensure the quality play was kept up. Sporting their gold medals, the team are now looking forward to playing the winners of the medium/large schools competition. Watch this space for news of how they get on.

H&WSSP Table Tennis

Both our teams, boys and girls, did very well in the partnership table tennis competition in September. The girls came a very respectible fourth, while the boys managed to earn silver medals for coming second in their competition. Well done to all involved.
